About Panskura

Locatred in the Burdwan division, Panskura is a municipality town in Purba Medinipur or East Medinipur district of the Indian state of West Bengal. Panskura town also serves as the headquarters for Panskura block which is based at a distance of 26km away from Tamluk which serves as the headquarters of Purba Medinipur district. On the eastern side of the town at a distance of 78km lies the capital of the state Kolkata.

Formed a Municipality in 2002, Panskura Municipality is divided into 17 wards where elections happens in every 5 years. The municipality office is in charge of the 11,743 houses based here. It is the duty of the office to ensure basic amenities in the area. Among basic amenities there is water, electricity services, road construction, maintaining hygiene and cleanliness, public health and vaccination and many others. Keeping of records and tax imposition is also important part of the works of the municipality office here. Geography of Panskura

Lying at an elevation of 7meters or 26feet, Panskura coordinates at 22.42°North Latitudes and 87.7°East Longitudes. The town lies on the border of East Medinipur district and West Medinipur district. The boundaries of Panskura block includes Kolaghat block bordering the eastern side, Debra block on the western side, Sahid Matingini on the North and Moyna block covering the southern side.
The town is situated on NH26 and can be viewed while traveling from Kolkata to Kharagpur.

Climate of Panskura

The climate of Panskura is tropical as a result summers are extremely hot in this region. Hot winds blow during the months of March to June which is ideally the summer season here. The average temperature during this time stays around 38C with humidity as high as 76%. The monsoon stretches from June to September when rainfall remains moderate. While schedule tribe forms 1.51% of the total population, schedule caste forms 7.01% of the tital population as per census 2011.Literacy rate of Panskura municipality is 84.97% which is much higher to the state average literacy rate which stands at 76.26%. The male literacy of the area is 89.91% whereas the female literacy is based at 79.77%
The local language of the area is Bengali. However Hindi and English are also spoken by natives here.

Economy of Panskura

Panskura is one of the economically active zones of Purba Medinipore district. Often named as the “Place of Flowers”, this perticular location is famous for the versatile and wide collection of several beautiful flower farming which is then exported to various parts of the state, country and even abroad to various foreign locations like Dubai, USA, Europe, several other Asian countries like Malaysia, Singapore etc. Apart from being a flower den, the economical growth of the Panskura city is depended on agricultural activities.
